SRAOC #12 Cycles and Seasons

Small Rebellious Acts of Creativity (#SRAOC) is a weekly invitation to explore a word, or phrase, through whichever creative avenue, platform or modality the participant wishes. It is intended to be a philosophical or creative catalyst moreso than a straight up writing prompt.

This week’s prompt was:  Cycles and Seasons

In the turning
I dance in a golden palette
Reaching skyward

Frost dances delicately
Skirts trailing on wisps of wind
At the colour’s turning

A skirt of russett
Spread out beneath the tree over
My forgotten bicycle

Freeze-frame world of a single drop
Of time standing still through ice-shattered windows–
I ponder the possibilities of what was
And warm my hands against the flames
Of what is still to come

When hope springs up I catch the dancing rays,
Fairies in nets that flit like flying dandelions–
I hold on with two hands to soar above the thaw below
And watch as all the pieces of me
Push back into the sun’s gaze
To dream of blooming again

I breathe the heat
Through the soles of my feet
Remembering not to drown
In the air that suffocates
And closes the throat from oxygen
In the air that imprisons
A body too hot to move

I breath the heat
Through the pores of my skin
Remembering how to forget
In air that promises reprieve
And an afternoon storm
In air soaked in water
Washing us dry
